Henry, Idaho was settled about 1884 by John Henry Schmidt. His original cabin, which also served as the local store and trading post, is still standing and can be seen across the road from our entrance gate. The old school house is also standing. For many years Henry was widely known throughout the west as home to the annual “Henry Stampede and Stockmen's Reunion”, first held about 1918 (reports vary). The rodeo grounds were located about one and a half miles west of the present day cafe. Famous “bad” horses of the day included “grave Digger”, “High Tower”, “Indian Tom”, “Wiggles”, “Hell to Ride”, “Dry Farm Annie”, “Red Wing”, and “Blackcat”. in 1911, the Bureau of Indian Affairs completed construction of the Blackfoot Reservoir, creating an earthen dam and impounding the Blackfoot River for flood control and irrigation water storage. Our marina is located on the far eastern shore of the reservoir, about 18 miles southeast of the Blackfoot Dam. We fondly refer to this slice of heaven as “the lake”. We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we will enjoy your company.
